August 11, 2010 – Balch Park Nature Trail
After we packed up camp, we decided to do something fun to wash out our disappointment with Moses Mountain the day before, so we walked the short nature trail that loops through Balch Park. The trail begins at the park entrance near the campground’s singular hollow tree, continuing through the first mile or so along mostly level terrain. After that, the trail dips sharply downhill as it heads west away from the campground, then turns back north and east as it climbs steeply to a ridge. This the trail follows back to the campground, and it rewarded us with nice views west to the San Joaquin Valley below us. We returned along the shore of one of the fishing lakes within the park, a nice hike through some really pretty country.
