Not a hike at all but just sharing our first Maui sunset. Our condo is in Kihei on the south side of the island – from our lanai, we look west across Maalaea Bay to the west Maui mountains. From our vantage point, the sun sets below the southern shoulder of West Maui and to the north side of the island of Lanai, the southern part of which is also in our field of view. In the foreground is an ancient fishing lagoon used by Hawaiian royals long ago – rocks were piled up to fence off the ocean along the Kihei shoreline, trapping the fish within and allowing the VIPs easy access to the catch of the day. Much of the stone fence is still in place today. We’ve been experimenting with using a polarizing filter on Jane’s Canon, so here are a few random shots, all taken from our 3rd-floor condo’s patio.
