July 11, 2015 – PCT West of Grassy Hollow
The Grassy Hollow Visitor Center was having a presentation on snakes and other reptiles, so Chris and Pedro took Jude and Ollie on a short hike down the PCT west of the facility prior to attending the lecture. The trail follows the contours along the north side of Blue Ridge, gaining and losing the same 30′ of elevation several times before reaching a low gap in the ridge line. The views from this point in particular are very nice – south is the San Gabriel River drainage and north is the desert, while Mt. Baden-Powell lies impressively to the southwest. We continued west on the trail another few hundred yards before turning around at the 0.9 mile mark, not wanting to be late for the snakes. Lots of people were out this beautiful July morning as we passed several large groups of 15 or more, many of whom we saw again back at the visitor center. A wonderful stretch of trail for kids and adults alike.
