February 20, 2016 – Grassy Hollow PCT
Having walked more than 10 miles with the kids at Disneyland the day before, we decided to take a short walk today west down the PCT from Grassy Hollow – we’ve both got new boots and want to break them in a bit. It’s been a few weeks since the west end of Blue Ridge had any significant snow, and the south slopes of the ridge are quite dry at this point – however, lingering drifts on the north side are still substantial in spots, which led to some tricky footing where the slush was still icy and slick. After just a mile or so down the trail, we turned back at the second of three intersections of the PCT and the paved Jackson Flat campground road, following the road back east to the visitor center. Great weather in the 50s and a gorgeous day.
