July 5, 2017 – Yosemite: Bridalveil Fall
Since our route back to Wawona passed directly by, we decided to stop at Bridalveil Fall on our way out of the valley. Not much of a hike at all, taking just 18 minutes to wander up the 1/4-mile-long paved trail to the fall, snap some photos, and walk back. When honeymooning here 32 years ago, we had taken a self-portrait somewhere along this trail – a favorite photo that still graces a shelf at home – where we had placed Jane’s Canon AE-1 on a rock, set the self-timer, and rushed to the front of the camera before the shutter snapped. It’s a funny picture in that all the trees in the background are leaning, since the rock upon which the camera sat was not at all level. Anyway, we found what we think is the same rock, although the forest area behind it has obviously changed a bit since 1985. We stopped at the east end of the Wawona tunnel to enjoy the grand view into the valley in the late afternoon sun, and we realized Cynthia was within a few steps of completing 20 miles – we called that close enough, and a passerby took a group photo of us to mark the milestone.
