July 5, 2017 – Yosemite: Lower Yosemite Fall (2x)
After meeting us at Degnan’s, Barbara and the Arredondos decided to head back to Wawona – the rest of us figured we could grab a shuttle to the Yosemite Falls area, walk the mile-long loop trail there, and then shuttle again back to Half Dome (Curry) Village ourselves where we’d parked. A short bus ride thus brought us to the base of the Yosemite Falls loop trail, an entirely paved pathway encircling the lower reaches of Yosemite Creek on the valley floor – we had walked the upper and west segments on Monday, so we chose to walk the loop counter-clockwise, heading northward first up the east side of the loop. The trail here is virtually level and well-shaded, and it was not long at all before we reached the junction with the Valley Loop trail we had traversed two days earlier, where we turned west up the gentle ascent to the bridge below the lower fall. A little earlier in the day than our previous visit, the fall was still sunlit, enhancing the movement of the mists swirling above the creek. There were much fewer people here today – we figure the Tuesday holiday had folks returning to work the rest of the week, and we were able to take photos and enjoy the moment without all the jostling of Monday. We returned to the bus stop via the west trail as before, pausing to mark Mile 19 for Cynthia, and the GPS noted 1.1 miles for the round trip.
