August 10, 2019 – PCT to Grassy Hollow
We got to Wrightwood for the weekend late Saturday afternoon – Pedro wanted to do a short evening hike before dinner, so Chris decided to join him. We’re doing a four-day backpack trip over Labor Day weekend, so this was a chance to get out with a full-ish pack. We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve walked the mile on the PCT between Inspiration Point and Grassy Hollow, but it seemed like the perfect little workout – a good distance to stretch legs, plus Chris had bought a new backpack for the upcoming trip and needed to get it dialed in as well. We left Inspiration Point at about 5:30pm, quickly getting up to the overlook bench before proceeding up to the level traverse below Lightning Ridge. We made our way west off the ridge and down to the picnic area, noting how lush the wildflowers still were at various points along the trail. We stayed at Grassy Hollow only long enough for Chris to make some adjustments to his pack before turning east and heading home – the only remarkable thing about the return trip was how slow Chris was getting back up the ridge, definitely out of shape and unable to make good time up even the most moderate slope (ouch)…
